Industry Milestones
2007:
Singapore-MIT Game Lab (GAMBIT) program by then Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) to accelerate talents into the nascent, but rapidly growing games industry.
2008:
Major international game studios and institution such as Ubisoft, Lucasarts, DigiPen etc. setup base in Singapore.
2011:
Games Solution Centre (GSC) launched by MDA & Nanyang Polytechnic at Mediapolis Phase 0 (also known as Block 71) as a rapid prototyping development environment for Singapore-based start-ups to incubate and develop their games.
GSC houses Southeast Asia’s first Playstation Incubation Studio.
2015:
MDA launches the SG50 Games, celebrating 5 different Singapore-themed mobile games by indie developers as part of its industry development efforts.
2016:
MDA merged with Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) to form Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
IMDA launches PIXEL Studios, an evolution of GSC as an innovation hub for games, online media and tech start-ups/projects.
2017:
Formation of the ground-up industry community group - Singapore Games Guild (SGG), a non-profit organisation registered under the Registry of Societies.
Organised annual Singapore game industry day, monthly GameDevDrinkUp and ad-hoc fireside chats for the game creation community
2018:
Setting up of the SGG Facebook Group & Website, featuring the Singapore Industry Directory #SGGamedevs and history of Singapore-made games #SGGames
2019:
SGG Facebook group reaches close to 900 community members
SGG selected by Enterprise Singapore (ESG), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), and IMDA to be the primary trade association in executing industry-wide initiatives for the online gaming and esports industry sector, following the pitching outcome of the agencies’ Esports and Online Gaming Industry Association Pitching and Voting event.
2020:
SGGA is officially launched
